Cultural Safety Initiatives Status Report 2020

On November 30, 2020 former judge and Representative for Children and Youth in BC, Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond released a report detailing their months’ long investigation: In Plain Sight: Addressing Indigenous-specific racism and discrimination in BC health care.
 
We know that there is still much work to be done to address racism and discrimination targeted towards the Indigenous population when they receive health care, including oral health care.  We have begun the journey to address this critical issue.  Please click here to read about the College’s initiatives thus far regarding Cultural Safety both in the delivery of dental hygiene care and into its own operations.  In addition this document provides resources for dental hygienists to learn about and include the principles of cultural safety in their practice.
