Proposed Bylaw Amendments
The College Board recently passed proposed bylaw amendments for public consultation. These proposed changes are designed to further enhance public safety and align the CDHBC Bylaws with the proposed amendments to the BC Government’s Dental Hygienists Regulation, which were posted by the Ministry of Health on August 30, 2019. The proposed bylaw amendments are posted for consultation for the required three-month period.
It is very important to note that the proposed changes are for feedback only. As such, the current regulations and bylaws, including the 365-day rule, are still in effect. The College welcomes feedback on the proposed bylaw amendments via email, cdhbc@cdhbc.com, by Friday, February 7, 2020.

Root of the Matter: Disclosing Blood-Borne Infections to CDHBC
Registered dental hygienists in a clinical practice setting perform exposure-prone procedures (EPPs) such as debridement and administration of oral local anaesthetic. With these EPPs comes the risk of transmission of blood-borne pathogens (BBPs) from an infected registrant to a client. BBPs of specific concern include hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
As a reminder, given your ethical and professional obligation to protect the health and safety of your clients, you are required to inform the CDHBC if you are infected with or have a history of being infected with HBV, HCV and/or HIV. Reporting this history does not mean you will be prevented from performing EPPs. Rather, a determination will be made based on serological and infectious status on how best to support you in providing safe client care.
Registrants should receive regular testing for EPPs to ensure they are aware of their status.
If you have ever tested positive for HBV, HCV or HIV, please contact the College for the direct contact information of the Deputy Registrar. Information provided will be handled with discretion.

Moving?
It is a bylaw requirement that registrants of the College ensure that their mailing address is always current on the CDHBC register. Incorrect or out-of-date addresses can lead to missed mailings that may include important notices and documents.
Address changes can be done by logging to your registrant profile, clicking on the “Profile” tab and editing “Your Contact information”. Please contact the College if you require any further assistance at cdhbc@cdhbc.com.
