QAP Assessment Tool Security: Everyone’s Responsibility

The fourth cohort of registrants will be starting their Quality Assurance Program (QAP) cycle in January 2016 and completing the QAP Assessment Tool before the end of February; with this in mind, now is a good time to reflect on the importance of upholding the reliability and validity of the Tool. This is a shared responsibility between the CDHBC, the National Dental Hygiene Certification Board (NDHCB), and all registrants.

In order to preserve the integrity of the QAP Tool, we all need to work together.  The College and NDHCB have a variety of mechanisms to ensure that the Tool is not compromised.  Registrants are also key participants in upholding the security of the Tool and as such, should not reproduce, copy, save, or share in any way any content of the Tool. The security and confidentiality of the QAP Assessment Tool is of the utmost importance to its validity and reliability as an assessment component of the QAP. Should the integrity of the Tool be undermined, a complete redevelopment of the Tool would be necessary and ultimately, this would have an impact on all registrants.

Registrants are also key participants in upholding the security of the Tool and as such, should not reproduce, copy, save, or share in any way any content of the Tool.

When taking the Tool, a registrant must agree to the Statement of Understanding. That Statement commits each registrant to complying with the following terms:

  • Complete the QAP Assessment Tool individually without help from any other person
  • Refrain from any behaviour that would breach the confidentiality/security of the QAP Assessment Tool
  • Refrain from engaging in any process that violates the purpose and principles of the QAP Assessment Tool
  • Report any instance of cheating to the CDHBC and/or the NDHCB as soon as possible

It is your high standards of ethics and integrity, as much as your knowledge and experience, that define you as a health professional. We trust that you will exercise all of the above qualities when participating in the Quality Assurance Program and the Assessment Tool.  While it may not seem like there is any harm in chatting about the questions you saw on the Tool with your colleagues, all that is gained by sharing information about the contents of the Tool is to reduce the usefulness of the kind of information the Tool provides to each registrant to enhance their practice and their care to the public.

It cannot be emphasized enough that the Tool is an educational device that informs ongoing learning. A registrant’s result on the Tool has no bearing on their ability to practice.

Should the integrity of the Tool be compromised, the College would need to act to re-establish the security of the Tool, which may result in the College incurring unnecessary expenses and/or implementing extra security measures. Either of these instances would directly affect you as a registrant. We therefore request and trust that you will work with us to keep the Quality Assurance Program valid, reliable, manageable, and cost-effective.

New Payment Options for Renewal

The College is pleased to offer two new payment methods for the 2016 renewal period.  Visa Debit and Interac® Debit will now be added to Visa and Mastercard as options to pay registration renewal fees.

Your registration expires on the last day of February each year and as such you must renew your license to practice during the renewal period in January and February. Login Process Reminder

Registrants are now required to set up a username and password to log in to their profile on the registrant site. The College is asking all registrants to complete this process in advance of the renewal period beginning in January 2016. If you have not already done so, please visit the registrant site. You will be asked to provide your current login information (registration number, DOB, email address).

Before being granted access to your profile, you will be prompted to create a unique password for your profile; this will be the password used to sign in to the registrant profile area on the CDHBC website going forward. As part of this new system, please note that you will only be able to use an email address that you have access to and check on a regular basis.

Once you have finished setting up your new account, you will receive a confirmation email to the email address you used for your new username. This email will provide the link that you will need to complete the account upgrade. Please use either Google Chrome or Firefox as a browser. Internet Explorer and Safari are not supported browsers.

All registrants are encouraged to switch over to the new system before the 2016/17 renewal period opens in January 2016 to ensure a smooth renewal process.

BC Health Regulators Launch Public Awareness Campaign

“Saying you are one doesn’t make you one”

Starting on September 21, 2015, the BC Health Regulators, representing 26 regulated health professions governed by 23 colleges and over 100,000 health professionals, launched their public awareness campaign “Saying you are one doesn’t make you one.” Following the success of last year’s “our purpose, your safety” campaign, this year’s campaign is designed to encourage British Columbians to obtain health services from licensed and regulated health care professionals.

Featuring children acting as health care professionals delivering services with potentially disastrous, and humorous results, the “Saying you are one doesn’t make you one” campaign sends a compelling message about the risks associated with obtaining services from unlicensed individuals. British Columbians are encouraged to visit the BC Health Regulators website at www.bchealthregulators.ca to learn more about regulatory colleges in British Columbia, the professions that are regulated, and how they can ensure they are receiving safe and professional health services.

The campaign launched on September 21, and will be found across digital platforms and on television. If you haven’t already seen the ads, you can view them here: https://vimeopro.com/storyboxmovies/bc-health-regulators

Tech Tips

Please be aware that Hotmail has recently changed their security settings. If you have a Hotmail account, please ensure that you have added cdhbc@cdhbc.com to your safe contact list as the College sends important notices via email. Please note this will only ensure that you receive emails sent from the cdhbc@cdhbc.com email address. You will still need to check your junk folders for any emails that have been sent to you directly from a College staff member and add each address to your safe contact list. The College strongly encourages its registrants to use alternate email addresses to reduce the risk of missed emails. It is the registrant's responsibility to ensure that your email host will accept our email notices.

If you are having difficulty logging in to the Registrant site or opening pdfs on our website, please either upgrade your Internet Explorer or use an alternate browser such as Google Chrome or FireFox. The login issue is specifically related to Internet Explorer.
