COVID-19

On May 15, 2020 the College released a series of documents to guide the resumption of in-person non-essential care.

The documents included a letter from Dr. Henry to health care professionals who provide care in a community settings cocerning the May 19, 2020 move to Phase 2 of the Restart BC Plan.  The College subsequently recommended that registrants can provide in-person non-essential care as long as the guidelines can be followed.

Registrants should be familiar with the content of the various documents provided.  Those documents can be accessed through the dedicated COVID-19 page of our website.

In an effort to consolidate the information provided in the series of documents and provide a central place where the more frequently asked questions can be addressed, the College has created a FAQ. If following a thorough review of all the documents provided registrants have a specific question, the FAQ may offer further clarification but it is not a substitute for a careful review of the full documents. Guidance will be updated as further information becomes available.

The Dental Hygienists Regulation and College Bylaws Updated

On February 24, 2020, the BC Ministry of Health enacted amendments to the Dental Hygienists Regulation .  This document provides a summary of how the changes may affect your practice and is further supported by the Regulation Interpretation FAQs. To ensure that key areas of the regulations are enforced, the College also released a new Practice Standard on Radiography and a new Practice Standard on Private Dental Hygiene Practice.  In addition, the College worked collaboratively with the College of Dental Surgeons of BC to create a document that provides further clarification on Prescriptions and L/A.

On March 2, 2020, the College's amended Bylaws came into force. The changes are designed to further enhance public safety and align the Bylaws with the recent amendments to the BC Government’s Dental Hygienists Regulation. The College developed a What do you need to know about the Bylaws document to summarize the changes as well as a Registrant FAQs.

CPR-BLS Certification

As of March 2, 2020, the updated CDHBC Bylaws came into effect. One of the changes implemented was the requirement for CDHBC registrants in a practicing category (i.e., RDH & DHP) to hold current CPR certification. The College is aware that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the availability of these courses. We are closely monitoring the situation regarding access to these courses and the College will consider reasonable accommodations should it be appropriate or necessary.

QAP Suggested E-Learning Activities

The College has gathered a list of learning activities that are available online, organized by subcategory. Many of these online learning opportunities are available free of charge. Please understand that the College does not normally recommend or endorse particular learning activities and typically requires registrants to use their professional judgement in selecting appropriate learning opportunities and providers. However, during these challenging times, we wanted to provide a starting place for registrants to help guide you toward learning activities that are available during this time of social distancing. Please see the link here and note that this is not an all-encompassing list. There are many other providers with learning opportunities available.
