Social Media and Marketing Review
Do you have a dental hygiene website? Do you have a dental hygiene Facebook page or Instagram account?
Social media has changed the way we communicate with our clients and other health care professionals. It is important to understand that the Code of Ethics and professional standards for dental hygienists do not change when communicating or sharing information via these online platforms. Utilizing social media has implications related to ethical responsibilities such as confidentiality, privacy, professionalism, conflict of interest, and maintaining public trust. Clear professional boundaries must be maintained, which is facilitated by use of professional accounts that are separate from personal accounts.
The CDHBC will be undergoing a collaborative review with registrants who have professional websites and social media pages to ensure the content aligns with the CDHBC’s Interpretation Guidelines related to Social Media and Marketing. We encourage registrants to take the time to review these documents to ensure no inappropriate, misleading or confidential information is being shared on their professional websites and social media platforms. If you have any questions about specific content, the CDHBC Practice Advisors are happy to discuss and provide recommendations.
