We Want to Hear From You!
Registrants are invited to participate in a short online survey to express their views on current topics and issues related to how the public receives dental hygiene care. This survey will be anonymous. In order to achieve the most accurate results possible, the email that is on file with the College will be used to access the survey. Only one response per email recipient will be permitted.
One of the key projects the College has been working on over the last few years is updating the Dental Hygienist’s Regulation and the College Bylaws. The first phase of this project was completed on March 31st, 2015 when all sections of the bylaws, except for the registration section, were updated and amended. The College has been working diligently on the second phase of the project, which is to update, improve, and clarify the Regulation and the registration section of the bylaws. Earlier in the project, the BC Dental Hygienists Association held a workshop with members to gather input on the proposed changes.
This survey is another opportunity for registrants to provide input, which will be shared during the Dental Hygiene Forum at the Pacific Dental Conference on Thursday, March 17th, 2015 at 2:00 pm. The Forum is open to all dental hygienists registered at the conference and important information will be shared with registrants at that time. A video of the forum will be posted on the College website for those who were unable to attend.
Thank you in advance for your participation in the survey! The Survey Link will be sent to registrants by email, and will be open until 4:00pm Friday February 19, 2016. Please watch your email for your link to take the survey - do not forget to check your 'Junk' or 'Spam' folder.

QAP Content Categories at PDC
The College has collaborated with the Pacific Dental Conference (PDC) staff to include a coding system within the PDC program to assist with identifying links between your QAP learning goals and the PDC sessions. In the PDC program you will notice that each dental hygiene-related session has been coded with a ‘Y’ or an ‘NA’. 'Y' indicates that the course aligns with a suggested QAP content category, which can be identified using a QAP legend on the CDHBC and PDC websites. 'NA' indicates that a QAP content category has not been identified for that course; however, it may still be eligible for CE credits. You will need to use your professional discretion to determine if the course marked ‘NA’ is eligible for CE credits in your self-directed learning plan.
The legend for QAP content categories will include a letter-number code (e.g.D.3.) for each PDC session corresponding to one or more specific CDHBC QAP content categories (e.g. non-surgical dental hygiene therapy). It is important to note that these codes are suggestions only, based on the limited information provided within the session outlines. You are required to use your professional judgment when selecting courses and determining which QAP content categories the course addresses.
A content category may contain multiple elements so please link your Online Learning Plan to only the elements of each content category that best represent the actual topics covered in each session. For example, if a session is focused on ergonomics, it would be coded as D.3.; however, that session may not include information on dental hygiene therapy or instrumentation, which are also part of the D.3. content category. In this case, your OLP entry should reflect that you took a course on ergonomics, which might only partially address your learning requirement under category D.3.
Click here for the full list of CDHBC Content Categories. The legend that links the PDC sessions to the content categories will be available shortly on both the PDC and CDHBC websites. Please refer to this list to assist you in determining which content categories are represented by each letter-number code in the program. For those registrants who are not currently enrolled in a QAP cycle please continue to track your CE as you have in the past, using the Learning Activities Framework. We hope you find this initiative of benefit to you. More information on this and other events surrounding the PDC will be available closer to conference.

Goal Setting and Reflecting on Learning Within the OLP
With the start of a New Year, many of us have looked back over the past year to assess what went well, and what may need improving during 2016. This might have then prompted some goal setting and a few New Year’s resolutions, for example: losing a few pounds, spending less time on social media, de-cluttering, or even increasing fiscal responsibility. There may be a few out there who think there is no point in setting New Year’s resolutions; within a few weeks those well-intended resolutions end up falling to the wayside, leaving one feeling disheartened.
Do not despair; there are some great tips that will help in setting those New Year’s goals. Try setting a goal that is specific, measurable, action oriented, realistic, and timely. Does this sound familiar? It should, as these are the key steps in setting SMART learning goals within your Online Learning Plan (OLP). Like setting New Year’s resolutions, the beginning of a new 5-year QAP Cycle brings the start of setting new learning goals. To continue reading this article, please follow this link.
