Proposed Regulation and Bylaw Update

During the Dental Hygiene Forum at the Pacific Dental Conference on March 17, 2016, the College of Dental Hygienists of BC (CDHBC) presented its proposal that, if accepted by government, will update the CDHBC Regulations and Bylaws to enhance access, clarity, and choice. This proposal is the result of significant consultation and work.

The proposed changes will affect regulations and bylaws related to the removal the 365 Day Rule for all registrants, the removal of the ‘dentist on site’ requirement for L/A administration, ensuring the ability to take and interpret radiographs is contained in the regulation, and the provision for limited prescribing ability for a new registration class of dental hygienist.

Streamlined Professional Renewal

During the Dental Hygiene Forum at the Pacific Dental Conference on March 17, 2016, representatives from CDHBC, CDHA, and BCDHA announced that the College and associations have entered into an agreement that will align the renewal year of the associations with CDHBC. As such, the College will collect all professional fees from all practicing dental hygienists in BC during the College renewal period.

The new streamlined process will be integrated so that dental hygienists will enter their information and pay all their professional fees only on the College website at the same time each year. Streamlined Professional Renewal assures the public that all practicing dental hygienists in BC will automatically have access to comprehensive and continuous professional liability insurance coverage, provides access to the resources offered by the associations to all dental hygienists, and combines deadlines in order to simplify registration and membership renewals for dental hygienists.

You can find the announcement on Streamlined Professional Renewal here.
