Residential Care Registration

Full registration (residential care) allows dental hygientists working in CDHBC approved residential or long term care facilities to practice without a prior dentist's examination of clients. Dental hygienists wishing to register in this class must meet all requirements for FULL REGISTRATION and have the following additional qualifications:
  • current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate;
  • a minimum of 3500 hours of clinical dental hygiene practice experience;
  • successful assessment by an agency approved by the Board of the following additional knowledge and skills:
    • ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team to provide oral health services to clients with chronic disabling conditions
    • ability to develop dental hygiene diagnosis based on assessment of client’s needs;
    • ability to produce oral care plans for clients with chronic disabling conditions;
    • ability to provide oral health services for clients with chronic disabling conditions; and
    • ability to evaluate outcomes related to oral health services for clients with chronic disabling conditions.
