CDHBC Awards and Scholarships

The College of Dental Hygienists of British Columbia acknowledges the hard work of dental hygiene students in accredited schools in British Columbia. Awards are presented annually for the highest overall achievement for a graduating student, highest overall achievement for a first year student, highest academic achievement for a first year student and the highest clinical proficiency for a first year student.

Darlene Thomas Award for Vision and Leadership in Dental Hygiene

Nominations are annually sought for someone who, like Darlene Thomas, demonstrates vision and leadership in the profession of dental hygiene and makes a profound impact on the profession in British Columbia. The recipient is a College registrant in good standing and will meet the following selection criteria:

demonstrate and communicate a broad, progressive perspective of the profession of dental hygiene, including a future perspective;
possess qualities that dental hygienists wish to emulate, including a consistently professional demeanor, encouragement of others, acceptance and carrying out of extra responsibilities and challenges in the profession, lifelong learning, compassion and humor; and
demonstrate balance in their life, including strong family values and commitment to the community.

A committee of the Board reviews nominations in accordance with the selection criteria. The College contributes $600.00 in the recipients name to the UBC Darlene J Thomas Memorial Award Scholarship Fund annually.
